Particle Accelerator at the Weizmann Institute, Rehovot
A complex engineering project, which required the utmost precision and constant calculation of the correct concrete mixes. A problem arose in the stage of excavating of the foundations, when the combination of the sandy and rocky soil required the use of special diamond drills.
After the process of preparing the foundations was completed, 25-meter deep posts were cast with great precision, in order to support the structure and the actual accelerator made of steel and weighing hundreds of tons. During the building process, after the 12-meter high bottom layer was cast, the accelerator was assembled. The thickness of the structure’s walls was 2 meters and its height, 65 meters.
